Once you are aware of your spiritual gift you should not wait to know all there is to know about it. You should immediately start to practice your trade. You can start by practicing in a safe place among people who are knowledgeable. Remember when Jesus was training the disciples in the gift of casting out demons (deliverance) and healing the sick, Jesus first taught them, then he demonstrated how it was to be done.

In Mark 6:7 it reads, “Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits.” Mark 6:12 continues by saying, “They went out and preached that people should repent. They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.”

Jesus taught them then showed them, and then he sent them out to practice their gift, like practice teaching.

The disciples did not have a lot of confidence but they soon learned that they too could do what Jesus did.

A Thought: Once you know your gift, it is time to start practicing it. Ignoring it or waiting until you are “called out” is not an option. Start with what you know, volunteer. Yes, there is more to be known, but don’t hide behind the thought that I don’t know enough. Also just watching others more skilled then you is not enough. Having mentors or teachers is a necessary part of development but it cannot become an excuse. Yes, you will run into things you don’t have the skill or knowhow to do. Remember the disciples who could not cast out the demon from the child and Jesus, teaching them more information said, “This kind only comes out with fasting and praying.” Up to this point, the fasting part had not been mentioned or demonstrated. Now Jesus is saying fasting is an important part of some deliverance situations.

In summary, your gift becomes better with use so get started with becoming a “practitioner” of whatever gift you have. Practice does make perfect.
